I finally see that calorie counting worked against me – Daily Life – September 2016

It started in the fitting rooms of a dreary high street department store. I was trying to do up a pair of jeans, but despite breathing in and yanking on the zipper as hard as I could, it wasn’t going to happen.

I was 11. It was the summer holidays before the start of high school and I desperately wanted a new outfit to go to my friend’s birthday party in. But it wasn’t going to be those jeans.
