From a physics perspective, a headstand is a relatively unremarkable phenomenon. But from the perspective of a pre-teen, there is a lot more to a headstand than basic gravity. In my case, as an eleven-year-old ‘early bloomer’, performing a headstand was impossible.

Maybe it was my hips, which had sprouted overnight and now protruded on either side of my chubby body like domes. My boobs definitely weren’t helping, and despite the brand new training bra, seemed to have a life of their own. I felt like I didn’t know my own body and persuading it to perform the headstand was futile.
