Technology to blame for kids’ poor spelling? – Essential Kids – June 2014


In an age where as many as 78% of them own a mobile phone, it is probably safe to assume that text messaging is having an impact on the way teenagers communicate. But could texting and auto-correct also be having an impact on the way that they write and spell?

US based English teacher Carrie Beth thinks so. “In my classroom, I can already see the negative effects,” she told UAB news. “Many high school students have become dependent on electronic spell-checkers. As a result, I spend a significant amount of time circling misspelled words on assignments.”
