Banning lollies at the checkout just a start – Essential Baby – January 2014


For many parents, tackling the weekly grocery shop with a toddler in tow is a horrible task, often interspersed with panicked toilet breaks, temper tantrums and the glares of other shoppers. Then there are the checkouts, whose displays of chocolate and lollies are guaranteed to cause an attack of the “I wants”.

But the latter issue is something that shoppers in British supermarket Lidl no longer need to worry about: the national chain has banned all confectionary from checkouts, replacing lollies with healthy snacks such as fruit and oatcakes
