No matter how many books you read or classes you attend, nothing can really prepare you for parenthood. New parents, often overwhelmed with information, need to navigate a vast array of new experiences with the little person they have created. So perhaps it’s no surprise that some of us (ever so slightly) lose the plot.

Precious Firstborn Syndrome (PFS) is a phenomenon coined by members of the UK’s biggest parenting site, Mumsnet. The term is used to describe the bizarre things many first-time parents do in the name of caring for their precious firstborn.
