Parenting a ‘spirited’ child – Essential Baby – June 2015


One of the things that amazed me most when I became a parent was watching my baby develop a personality. It seemed to happen in the blink of an eye: one moment she was a docile potato (albeit with a powerful pair of lungs when she needed to get her point across), the next she had an unmistakably mischievous twinkle in her eye that told me there would be trouble ahead.

At mothers group a very awake and alert G bounced on my knee while around me the other babies slept or fed in their mother’s arms. The early childhood nurse running our session remarked that G was very “active.”
