How can parents tackle the self-esteem crisis threatening young girls – Essential Kids – September 2016
When I read that as many as 34% of 10 to 15 year-old British girls are unhappy with their appearance my heart sank. There was nothing new in the Children’s Society Good Childhood Report (after all, there have been other reports saying the same sort of thing) but the sheer scale of the problem was depressing to say the least.
There were lots of very sobering statistics to come out of the report. But one thing really stood out for me; this issue is getting worse. The report notes that there has been a sharp rise in girls’ unhappiness over the last five years, while happiness of boys the same age has remained stable.
