Is there any harm in baby shaming? – Essential Baby – June 2014


Have you heard about the ‘baby shaming’ trend? The idea is to share a photograph of your baby or toddler holding up a sign that describes their latest mishap; think things like “I pooped in the shower and made Daddy clean it up” or “I scream like my hair is on fire every time my mum puts me down” or “I stuck my hand in ketchup and used my mum’s shirt to clean it off.”

The young children holding up the signs are oblivious to the ‘joke’, often smiling at the camera. In some photos a baby sleeps with a sign on their chest, blissfully unaware.
