PND support just a phone call away – Essential Baby – April 2015


Last year PANDA, the Post and Antenatal Depression Association, received 11,000 calls from people looking for information, education or support on depression. But according to PANDA spokesperson Lisa Knot, that’s just a drop in the ocean. “We know there are many more parents that need support that aren’t getting it,” she says.

Phones play an important role in the fight against postnatal and antenatal depression. In fact, new research from the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, has found that telephone-based peer support could actually reduce PND in mums up to at least two years after birth.
