My mother often jokes that she was never taught how to do housework. Her mother, born in the 1920’s brought her up with a strict mandate – study hard, have a career. My nana was forced to give up her career as a teacher when she got married – in those days married women simply didn’t work outside the home. She wanted more for her daughters. She wanted them to ‘have it all.’

Fast-forward a couple of generations and while many women do balance successful careers with raising children most women will concede that ‘having it all ‘ is a bit of a myth.
