Why I’m a camping convert – Essential Kids – May 2014


I am a city girl at heart. I like my creature comforts: a comfortable bed, chilled wine, a Wi-Fi connection. I wasn’t in the Girl Scouts and I’m not “outdoorsy” (unless you include alfresco dining). So when my husband suggested that we take our children camping for the weekend I was not filled with wild enthusiasm. In other words: I didn’t really want to go camping.

We talked it through. My husband was adamant that our very active children would take to camping like ducks to water. He promised that he would take care of the campfire and assured me that the campsite would have flushing toilets and a shower block. I was adamant that I would hate every moment, but for the sake of keeping the peace, I half-heartedly agreed.
